Sunscreen talk
The more you read, the
more you research, the more confused you get. That’s how I feel, anyway. Sunscreen is such a complicated science, I think it
should be a subject on it’s own available to everybody at school, from a very
early age. There are, and will always be, different opinions and for those of
us that didn’t go to medical school, it becomes a very big problem. Are they
stable, are they safe, are we applying the right amount of product, are we cancelling
out SPfs by using other products or even spreading it properly all over the exposed
areas, or applying it frequently enough? After many reading and video watching,
both always bearing doctor’s opinions, my only conclusion is that most of us are
doing it wrong and will continue to do so. "How is it that in the 30s there was
1 in melanoma case in 1,500 people and nowadays there is
1 case in 50" (I think I got the data right, refer to this video on Caroline Hirons youtube channel, her advices and videos
have been such teaching moments for me and have prevent me from doing real
damage. Go check her channel and blog!)???!!!!! It’s ridiculous to be honest, we are definitely doing something
wrong and I do agree with Dr. Marko Lens that it also has to do with our lifestyle
and habits. Did you know we need almost 1 bottle of
sunscreen, for an entire day at the beach? No one will do that!!
The amount of sunscreen I’ve
been applying for the past years is already higher than most people, but doing
the tea spoon experience today, I was overwhelmed. I
tried half of a teaspoon (maybe a bit more) for my face and neck and I gave
up. Sure it was the Avène Mineral Fluid and it’s
thick and sticky and ghostly like, but it got to a point when, if I applied any
more, it would literally look like I was doing a mask! A very thick and sticky
and shiny mask. I wouldn’t go outside looking like that. Forget about putting
make up on top of that. I only added a bit of blush and a little translucent
powder to counter all that shine. Tomorrow the Caudalie
sunscreen will be on trial. In my opinion it’s better, it’s not heavy,
smells really nice and you don’t end up looking like a ghost. But considering the
amount to be used, it will be a scary experience. I’ve had bottles, containing
around 40 to 50ml for the face, that have lasted me over 3 months! Clearly the
amount used was FAR TOO LITTLE!.
So all of a sudden, once
more, I must rethink all my skincare routine… so tiring! The sunscreen
experiment will be continued and so will the glycolic acid by Pixi, for the
time being, because I do believe the tiny red spots weren’t caused, directly,
by the product. Hormonal period has something to do with it as well. One of
them is gone, the second is smaller and tomorrow will tell how the third one,
that appeared during the night, will be. I will be using the Pixi Glow Tonic, only for the second time. I also
wanted to do a moisturizing sheet mask, but if I do, it will only be after, at
least, half an hour prior to applying the Glow Tonic.
My knee, thankfully, recovered
from hitting the metal chair very fast and with no bruises. Regarding my sleep,
this past night was much better.
And now, I shall go and
wash all the sunscreen off my face. Perhaps a more thorough cleanse will be
needed today.
À bientôt le
